Alloa Academy Notes Week Beginning 12 September 2016

Inter-House competition

Last week’s Inter-House competition was won by Erskine House who scored a massive 18 points.  Bruce and Schaw tied in second place with 9 points each.  In order to gain points, all a class’s merits and demerits are taken together and matched against the other classes in a year group.  The top-scoring House in each year group wins three points with two points and one point for the second and third place.  This means that there is a total of 36 points available to win each week.  Once again the class with the highest number of weekly co-operation merits last week was 1B1 while 1S2 had the highest number of merits for effort.

Show My Homework

All students have now been issued with log-in details for Show My Homework. The details allow parents to log onto the system and see what homework has been issued for each child.  Details issued to students include how much time should be spent on the homework.

Well done to our S6 students who were presented with awards for their efforts to promote My World of work across the school. MyWoW is a valuable resource which supports students and their parents to look at pathways into future careers and which can be used in all areas of the curriculum.

School staff have been buying the organic vegetables produced by our allotment team.  Congratulations are due to the group which have made such a great job of feeding us!

Senior Prefects

Our Senior Prefect team is now organising a new recruitment of Prefects and supporting the process for the election of House Captains.  Our engraved boards will be updated in the next few weeks to take the names of our Head Boy and Girl and our dux from last year and this session.

Freshers’ Fayre

Our Fresher’s Fayre was a hive of excitement and activity on Thursday and over 200 of our students signed up for a club or activity.  All of the sporting activities were well supported and there was a high level of interest in the sustainability projects, Pupil Voice group and volunteering.  Many thanks to all who took part and good luck to those who are starting a new activity.

Calling all former pupils

If you are a former pupil of Alloa Academy, we would love to hear about what you are doing now so that we can share the info with students to help inspire them to plan for their future.
