Welcome to the Faculty of Social subjects and RMPS.

This Faculty delivers the following subjects:
– History
– Modern Studies
– Geography
– Religious Moral and Philosophical Studies

We teach pupils at all levels from S1-6. Our Faculty strives to let pupils understand the world in which they live and develop the skills and attributes they require to become active participants in it.


Aims of the Social Subjects and RMPS Faculty

We have high expectations of our students and provide them with a challenging learning environment which provides them with the opportunity to succeed.   Students are challenged and engaged through a variety of learning styles and activities which are designed to meet the needs of all learners.

When in Social Subjects and RMPS students will:

  • Be actively involved in the learning process, encouraged to take responsibility for their own learning and become successful learners.
  • Be involved in activities such as independent research, paired and group work, presentations, discussion and debate, self and peer evaluation and experiential learning.
  • Develop a range of skills such as the ability to draw conclusions , evaluate sources and evidence, map reading, problem solving, critical thinking, analysis, providing reasoned and justified points of view and interacting positively with others.
  • Develop an understanding of the world around them including human achievements past and present, develop an understanding of their own values, beliefs, practices and cultures and those of others, recognise the importance of the principles of democracy and citizenship and the contribution they can make to society, understand environmental issues and developments and their responsibilities in relation to this
  • Develop capacity in terms of literacy, numeracy and health and well being.
  • Develop the skills to prepare them for lifelong learning and the world or work.
